Sandara’s Life
Sandara hummed as she walked. She is coming home from school. She doesn’t mind walking to and from school anymore.
You see, Sandara Yang was once a princess. Well, not the princess that you are thinking about right now likes Princess Diana of Wales. A year ago a very successful business called the Yang Business Enterprise has became bankrupt. The huge mansion that her family and she once had and the luxurious life are totally gone. They were forced to live anew, but this time not as one of the most influential family known all over Asia, but an ordinary and poor people. It was a pain in the ass at first, but for her now it really doesn’t matter.
Before she used to have her own car, she has her uncountable personal maids (ok I’m exaggerating) that do all the laundry and iron her clothes, she has her own personal chef and she has her own private tutor. But don’t think she is dumb right, because she is so not. As a matter of fact she has an IQ of 145. She is one of the smartest in her old school, but she always fails, because she never studies. She never had a knack at moving her body and do work.
Right, enough of that.
As most wealthy people would feel when they become poor and not being used to the poor life, Sandara is different. Living as an ordinary person is much more convenient, relaxing and has no hassle at all. No media goes around and tries to have a quick interview of her, or any threats at their house that they will kidnap her for ransom. A lot of people were jealous of her luxurious life. Many were annoyed at how she takes advantage of that fact. But Sandara has changed, and not only here, her whole family as well.
A lot of blessings came after the bankruptcy. Her father, Yang Hyun Suk, goes home early, never gets cranky, still strict but knows his limitations, doesn’t drink anymore and most certainly doesn’t have any secret affairs anymore. His father works as a clerk in a small business somewhere in the suburbs.
Her mother, Yang So-Eun, knows how to cook now. Before she only stayed at her office, making her designs for her clothing business and never goes home. Well she does, but not to have bonding moments with her children but to change her clothes and held parties with all her amigas and business partners. She makes Sandara and Hongki’s lunch to bring to school, which she never used to do. She’s more caring, understanding, patient and passionate towards her family.
Her brother, Yang Hongki, who used to be a computer wizard and school nerd, now goes out with friends, sing in a band and is an incredible basketball player. He is currently the captain of the school’s basketball team. He never used to talk to his sister, but now, they are the best of friends. Sandara gives him tips on how to treat girls nicely and to know their weaknesses. Hongki also knows all of Sandara’s secrets.
Thinking of the bankruptcy made her sad, but after that incident and thinking of all the good things that happened in their life, she’d rather be poor and ordinary all her life.she became much more responsible, mature, strong and hard-working.
She spotted her simple house and skipped along the road happily. She stretched her hand upwards and yelled, “I love life.”
As she reached her house, she unlocked the door impatiently with a wide smile. As she opened it, the nice and warm smell of the house overwhelmed her. She smiled and said in a loud voice, “I’m home.”
Her mother, who came from the kitchen with an apron on, came to vies with a gentle smiled, “Hey, welcome home Sandara.”
Sandarac ran put her bag on the side of the hallway and ran to kiss her mother’s cheeks and hug her tightly. She sweetly said, “I love you mom.”
Mrs Yang smiled and touched her daughter’s hands and replied, “I love you too.”
As banging of footsteps from upstairs occurred, Sandara smirked knowing it was Hongki. The loud steps came down and Hongki came to view. He is holding a gold medal and trophy. He is wearing a delightful expression and exclaimed, “Noona, we won and look,” he showed his medal; “I’m MVP this year for the junior tournament.”
Sandara screamed and jumped and ran towards her brother and hugged him. She kissed Hongki’s cheeks and said proudly, “I knew it. You are my brother after all. You inherited your reflexes from me.”
Hongki grimaced then said, “You can’t even shoot, how my reflexes could be inherited from you?”
Sandarac punched him playfully. Then she pinched his cheeks, “My brother is so cute.”
Hongki rubbed his cheek then pouted, “That hurts.”
Sandara smiled. Someone opened the door. Hongki and Sandara looked at each other and said together, “It’s dad.”
They ran to greet him. Their dad was still no the process of taking his shoes off but he didn’t get to finish it when he found himself being buried with his children’s tight embrace. Suddenly, all tiredness and problems were all gone. He hugged them back and saw his wife smiling playfully at him. Sandara reailizing this let go of her father and signaled to Hongki to do the same. Yang Hyun Suk hugged his wife tightly, and instinctively kissed her without thinking that his children are still in front of them.
Sandara’s eyes widen while pursing her lips, trying hard not to release her laughter. Hongki on the other hand made a vomiting act then covered his eyes. They both tiptoed to go to their rooms.
As Dara got inside her room, she straight away took all her stuff and did her homework. She buried her face with her books. She scratched her head when she did her English homework. She is fluent at English but she hates doing comprehensions especially when a question needs loads of details. She smiled crookedly when she took out her Math and Physics homework. She has no problem eve one bit. Her hand freely wrote without any worries. After 2 hours, she studied for her upcoming test in Biology. Her mom called her to eat their dinner together.
As usual, her mother’s cooking is the best. She smelled the aroma and it enriched her lungs. She slurped the soup into her mouth. She smiled and ate. They talked during dinner, it was full of laughter. They talked about what happened to their day. It is always fun during dinner time.
“Noona, it’s nearly 8:15, you should go to work,” Hongki reminded Sandara.
Dara looked at her watch to confirm it then gasped, “My God, you’re right.” She got up to kiss Hongki, Mrs Yang and Mr Yang, then said, “See you in the morning.”
She ran to her workplace…
After 15 minutes…
Dara opened the glassed door and Sarah Geronimo, her friend from the Philippines, saw her.
“Sandara, you’re on time,” Sarah smilingly said.
“I know. I cant’ be late again, or else I’ll be sacked from this job, and I don’t want that to happen,” Dara said playfully while unwrapping ger scarf from her neck.
Sarah smiled at her friend and went to the cashier box. A customer came. Sandara changed into her work uniform. It was blue and red while bottoms were her jeans. She go out of the shop and waited for a customer who wants to fill their cars. It was -2 degrees outside but she still waited. She rubbed her bare hands together to warm herself. She wiped her running nose. As she breathed, steam comes into view. Few customers came but she is still glad to have her job.
She went home at 2am and tiptoed her way to her room. She slept right away.
6am…
She went to where the newspapers people left the newspapers. She took some that were assigned for her and walked to each houses. She threw newspapers in people’s houses or she shoves the newspapers in their mail box. It is tiring but she enjoys her work everyday.
7:15 am…
She’s at home preparing their breakfast. Her brother’s footsteps could be heard all the way to the kitchen. She finished making breakfast. Her mom greeted her, “Morning Sandara.”
Sandara looked and smiled widely and replied, “Good morning.”
“Go change into your school uniform, I’ll make your lunch,” Mrs Yang said taking over.
“Okay then,” Sandara agreed and ran to her room to change. After changing she tied her hair up and went downstairs. She saw her dad drinking his coffee and reading the newspapers that she brought. She kissed his head and said, “Good morning.”
“Good morning, so how was work? Is it tiring?” Mr Yang asked, concerned.
“I was okay, like usual and yeah it is tiring but still enjoyable,” Sandara said positively.
Mr Yang smiled, admiring his daughter’s postiveness and courage and guts. Hongki was the last one to come down. They ate their breakfast fast.
“Guys you should go, you might be late for school,” Mrs Yang reminded them.
Hongki and Sandara took a last dip of their hot chocolate drink and got up. They kissed their mother goodbye as she gave them their lunch and so did they kiss their father. And off they went to school. ~~ jelouvills
